The Technical Working Group (TWG) Biomonitoring of Children was one of the 9 TWGs set up to assist the European Commission in the preparation of the "Action Plan 2004-2010".

The Technical Working Group proceeded along a two-step roadmap. The first step consisted of the identification of existing activities, problems and chances for progress. Step 1 results were compiled in a Baseline Report by December 2003.

Options for action were developed in a second step. The recommendations submitted to the European Commission were the basis for Action 3 of the European Environment and Health Action Plan 2004-2010.

For the implementation of Action 3 the Technical Working Group was expanded in order to have a larger geographical coverage and scientific expertise and is now called the Implementation Group on Human Biomonitoring.
