Overview on Political Comments

A strong political support for Action 3 is currently demonstrated at EU level:

  • The European Economic and Social Committee in its Opinion recommends that for action 3 immediate steps be taken in order to ensure that it is an effective and a credible operational tool at both national and Community levels and that optimal coordination procedures amongst specialised operational centres be developed on the basis of activities carried out by existing TWGs, in order to obtain optimal HBM results.
  • The EU Parliament fully supports action 3 in its Resolution on the Action Plan adopted on 23 February 2005.
  • The Dutch Presidency in cooperation with the European Commission organized a conference on 2-3 December 2004 in Egmond aan Zee, The Netherlands on the implementation of the Action Plan. The conference concluded that "HBM is a powerful tool to assess human exposure to environmental stressors and potential health effects" and that "Action 3 has a clear mandate and a tight time schedule. Launching the Pilot Project by 2006 will require cooperation with and participation of member states, full transparency of the process during the upcoming 2 years and clarity about funding."
